The committee of Sedgley Working Mens Club have just presented Compton Hospice a cheque for £4,000 at their annual charity night in aid of the hospice.
The club, located on School Street, are keen supporters of the hospice and over the last eight years have raised a staggering £26,670 by holding various events throughout the year.
Club Steward Des Richards is a keen organiser of events for Compton and often enrolls the help of Paul Boutell, manager of Intersound Entertainment Agency, who willingly supplies artists such as Simon Dean, free of charge, at the various charity shows that Des and his team put on.
As well as fundraising themselves, the club also loan out their function room free of charge to members of the public that choose to organise their own events in aid of the hospice.
“We have a lot of members who have had excellent support one way or another from Compton Hospice, so naturally the hospice is an obvious choice for our charity of the year,” said Derek Manford, club president, he added “In fact Compton has been our charity of the year for the past eight years and will continue to be so whilst I am club president.”
“Compton Hospice needs £5.4 million a year to be able to provide the service that it does and without the help of people like our friends at Sedgley we would never be able to provide the care that we do. We would like to thank the committee and all of the members at Sedgley Working Mens Club for their constant support, it is much appreciated,” commented Michelle Price, Community Fundraiser for Compton Hospice.
