YOU’RE HIRED!
The Midland Star of the hit BBC2 show The Apprentice has taken on the role of ambassador for Compton Hospice.
The Wolverhampton-born businesswoman shot to stardom as the clear favourite in The Apprentice before narrowly missing out to Michelle Dewberry.
Now, with typical determination, Ruth is “without a doubt” lending her support to the hospice and has pledged to do all she can to boost its coffers by appealing directly to businesses to put their hands in their pockets.
During the show, Ruth proved her business savvy to the nation. She’s now using her wealth of experience in improving profits and productivity to drive her own consultancy business forward – and helping the hospice.
Her passion for the specially-created role of ambassador was sparked by experiencing first-hand the care given to family members. While Ruth may have stood her ground when faced by the wrath of Sir Alan Sugar, she admits she couldn’t do the work of staff and volunteers at Compton.
Ruth said: “It’s a privilege for me to become an ambassador and I’ll be doing all I can to bring in funds and highlight the wonderful work done at Compton Hospice. “I want to remind people that charities still have to operate in business terms. Profit and loss is just as relevant to the hospice as it was to Sir Alan. “In some ways the hospice faces greater difficulty in generating money, because people don’t always see the service they are paying for. I want to let them know, if ever they did need the service, they would be glad they helped keep it going.
Ruth will join in with already-planned sponsored activities, like abseiling and firewalking, but is also keen to “get cracking” on urging businesses to up their financial support.

Compton Opens 15th Shop in snow storm!
On Thursday 2nd March at 10.00 a.m, Compton Hospice opened its 15th charity shop in somewhat of a snow storm!
The latest addition to Comptons fleet of charity shops at Castle Street, Roseville, Coseley, opened with falling snow and more than an inch of snow already settled on the ground. “This was one shop we really needed to open on time” said Sue Chance, General Manager of Compton Hospice Trading Ltd who manages the charitys` shops operations “believe it or not, we had a queue waiting outside in the cold!”
Despite the atrocious weather, the new shop took an amazing £482 on its first day of trading and it is expected that the shop will contribute over £22,000 profit per annum to go towards the palliative care of local people having a terminal illness.
Despite the weather, two of the shops newly recruited volunteers also turned up to the opening – Mavis Parkes and Mavis Hawkes. Also due to the weather conditions, Mary Jones, Chairman of the Trading Board of Directors, arrived late and had to officially cut the ribbon some half an hour after trading had started!
“Despite all the initial difficulties, the people of Coseley did us proud and came to buy from us in their numbers” added Sue “I`m sure this is a good omen for the future success of the shop”.
The charity shop will help raise funds for the Hospice by selling good quality donated clothes, bric-a-brac, books and accessories. There is also a range of bought-in giftware on offer.
Anyone wishing to donate goods or offering to volunteer at the shop can call in to speak to either Julie or Chris the two Shop Managers, or phone them on 01902 885440.
