Day Care
Day Hospice Services

Day care facilities at Compton Hospice are provided in a purpose built unit which offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where the focus of care is on maximising each patient's quality of life while they continue to live in the community.
The day hospice is staffed by an experienced team which consists of auxiliary nurses, a diversional therapist and complementary therapists. Staff are supported by volunteers who provide an added and welcomed dimension to the care patients' experience. Access to other members of the Hospice multidisciplinary team e.g. doctor, registered nurse, social worker, and physiotherapist is available by appointment.
The Day unit is open Tuesday through to Friday with patients normally arriving between 09.330-10.00 hours and leaving by 15.00hrs

Transport
If patients are unable to provide their own transport this can be provided, by car free of charge with one of the volunteer drivers. Also, there are limited places available on our ambulances for individuals with mobility difficulties. Staff are able to advise on how to access other forms of transport e.g. Ring and Ride services, travel vouchers.
Referral
Referrals must be made by a health/social care professional by completing both a Hospice referral form and manual handling risk assessment form. Unfortunately telephone referrals are not accepted. Once the referral has been received and accepted the patient is contacted and invited to attend an assessment day. We are aware that e first visits can be daunting prospect therefore patients' are encouraged to bring along a family member or friend to join them on their 'first day'
Once assessments have been completed and there is mutual agreement regarding regular attendance a day which is acceptable to the patient is negotiated for an agreed period of time. Attendance to the day unit is continually monitored and assessed and places are subject to this system of continuous review.
