Social Work and Families Department
The offer of emotional, psychological and practical support is an integral part of the Holistic approach to patients, their carers and family.
The Social Work and Families Department offers a range of services to those referred to the Hospice, including, Welfare Rights, legal issues, advice and guidance, advocacy and referral on to other agencies. We assist with plans for discharge home or to Nursing home.
Individual, Group work or family support is offered. Preparation of children for death of an adult is encouraged and work is either directly with children, in conjunction with parents/family, or by way of support to other professionals e.g. teachers. Contact may be brief, intermittent or longer term.
The Department hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 4.30 pm with flexibility outside office hours. There is a full time Principal Social Worker and three part time workers, fully supported by a full time Administrative Assistant.
We work in conjunction and co-operation with colleagues from all parts of the Hospice, Hospital Liasion Staff, Complimentary Therapists, Day Units, Doctors, Chaplain and Bereavement services.
