Ward Area
The Hospice ward area has 22 beds which are divided into same sex single, twin and four bedded rooms which all have access to en-suite toilet and hand washing facilities. Wheelchair access is available to all areas.
Families and visitors can meet and relax with patients in our delightful gardens and patio area or in pleasantly decorated spacious lounges where access to television, DVD and audio equipment is available. We encourage the children of families to visit but for the safety and comfort of others request they are supervised at all times.
Two overnight stay rooms with shared en-suite facilities are available to enable families to stay, if they wish, at any time of particular concern.
Hairdressing services are available, as well as the services of a visiting chiropodist. There is a designated smoking area for patients use as smoking is not allowed in any of the rooms. The appearance and atmosphere of the ward area is conducive to a peaceful and relaxed environment.
On admission patients are allocated a named nurse who is responsible for planning appropriate care following assessment and discussion with patient and carer. Every effort is made to meet the individual’s needs whilst encouraging and promoting their independence.
Length of stay is between 2-3 weeks and all patients who are discharged are actively involved in planning the care they may require in the place they return to after discharge.
Any relative or carer wishing to take an active part in caring for their loved one whilst they are a patient at the Hospice are encouraged to do so, providing that is their loved one’s wish.
In addition to nursing and medical responsibilities members of the ward staff are happy to be in contact with relatives, careers and other professionals who may need support or advice.
